Two of My Favorite Photos

I find it hard to explain why I like these images so much. I think it's something about the variety of grey tones and messiness/randomness within the order of squares.

I just know that I love it and my camera and phone is always full of photos like this from the city around me.

Floral

We've seen floral tools for "women who hammer", and yes they are nice, if not in my opinion a little patronising...I can use tools so a putting nice pink roses on them looks good, but doesn't make them less frightening as i was never frightened in the first place! Anyway less of my gripes..

So here is a wheelie bin that I pass every day on my walk to work. It's an area where all the houses have to have a big wheelie bin in its front garden, which makes the gardens look more like a dumping ground than a nice extra outside area for plants and happy things. This bin however actually adds to the Kerb Appeal of this house. The owner has covered it with rose patterned sticky back plastic, and it makes me think of how easy it is to make the mundane and unsightly attractive..and the possibilities this has for design.

I feel like decorating lampposts now.

Love This

This makes me laugh. Don't get me wrong. Bansky is great. But I admire the honesty of this work, even though it is mocking people rather than actually being admiting not to be getting it.. if you get my drift... anyhow it makes me smile and I can imagine so many situation where this scenario is very true.

Blogging Begins.. (albeit on a dull subject..)

Well.. Is pattern cutting strictly a dull subject? I have to say it's a guilty of pleasure of mine. I wouldn't say I have ever wanted to be a pattern cutter nor am I, but when designing I always think of the pattern, and when I see clothes that I admire I instinctively try and work out what their pattern looked like. Its second nature to me-I've always done it since I was making clothes for my dolls.

So today I'm pattern cutting.. as I have been for the last week or so. And enjoying it. I'm working on a collection for off schedule London Fashion Week for Mrs Jones. It's all a bit rushed so instead off drafting the pattern for scratch I'm making used of other tried and tested patterns and altering them. Today I'm working on a raglan sleeved bolero type jacket/tracksuit top. So I have started with a simplicity pattern (the shame!) for a tracksuit top. It doesn't have raglan sleeves so i have to work this out. It's the part that takes the longest but once that is done the rest will be pretty quick. then I will be able to make up the toile and check out all the bits that need altering!

The Beginning

Well.. Where do I start?

I've wanted a blog for ages.. something to enable me the vent all my thought about the design in the world around me. around us really.

I'm a fashion designer. but since graduating and being released into the real world I've realised that although fashion is my passion (i really hate saying that.. so very naff) I am very influenced by other artistic, design and craft disciplines and often find myself thinking "Should i change my career? Will fashion ever sate my design desires? Is there enough room in the already over saturated fashion market for me? Maybe being a product designer would have been more sensible" And other such ramblings..
I have however come the the decision that there is nothing wrong with having some many other design desires. In fact it is probably a positive thing and so i have decided to create this blog and fill it with all the things inspiring that fill my head (including fashion). This way my friends won't have to hear me ramble on about the shopping trolley/basket hybrids in Barcelona (why don't we have them) and I will feel like I am putting my often inane thoughts to some use. And even if nobody reads this it will be a nice cyber scrapbook for me to look back on for inspiration.
